I'm a negative person - I focus on the negatives in almost every task that I do.
I'm a sore loser - whenever I lose in any game, I lie in bed agonising over every small detail that went wrong.
There's nothing wrong being negative. What matters is how you channel your negativity.
A lot of my negativity gets channelled into positivity. So it actually works out fine, towards the end. My negativity is a source of strength.
Negative + Negative = Positive
It's simple maths. When you add up two negative values, you always get a positive number.
I know, sounds all very pseudo-science, so let me explain more in practical terms.
Most people deal with negativity the wrong way. They're finding reasons to absolve themselves from blame (e.g. luck, etc.). They're finding reasons to blame others (e.g. my teammates didn't pull their weight, etc.).
That's not how my negativity works.
I'm finding out the causes on how and why I failed. I'm figuring out ways to fix my mistakes and to improve myself in future.
If You're Not First, You're Last
I'm not only a sore loser. I'm also a sore winner. I won't accept victory unless it's won fairly and squarely. I don't count successes that were attained mainly due to my good fortune. I could stay up all night chastening myself for making small mistakes that almost snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.
I'm my own worst critic. There's a streak of Ricky Bobby in me. I often beat myself to death because not finishing first is as good as finishing last.
I know, I know, there's always second, third, fourth and even fifth. There's no shame not finishing first, when you're clearly a level or two below the rest, through no fault of your own, due to inequality of resources and external circumstances beyond your control.
And here's the rather ironic part about me. I never go into a challenge thinking I can't succeed. I never a play a game not thinking I can win. No matter the odds, no matter the cost. If you don't believe a goal is attainable, why bother even trying?
As a wise sage once said: "Do or do not. There is no try."
Positive, Me
Yes, I'm full of negativity. But I always have faith that things will turn out fine, more or less, give and take a few twists and tumbles, right at the end.
No matter how uphill the climb is, I believe I can reach to the peak.
No matter how shitty life can be, I believe I can make the best out of it.
No matter how pessimistic I am of my chances of success, I believe that I can win.
It's perfectly alright to wallow in a pool of negativity, so long as it launches you into a peak of positivity.
